Always on our trips to Minnesota we stopped at the first lake and a few more ... rare sight for Corn Huskers!

I couldn't see a rainbow.

June 1950 - Schmidt's Bridge, Ottertail River, Minn

Every evening, black families would fish off this bridge. We often gave them extra caught fish that we could not eat.

May 29, 2012 - 25-year-old man drowned after jumping off this bridge ... Daniel Anderson.

June 1950 - Ottertail at the "Bullhead" Hole

Max and I would fish this hole every night to catch bullheads which we took home alive. We almost got scared off by kids tosing boulders into the river only to learn that they were beavers slapping their tails.

A friend at the Railroad always loaned us his 5 hsp Johnson engine. As a wedding gift he loaded it to me for my honeymoon.

I loved that shirt with a WWII patch. Max isn't going to win any beauty contests with his fishing clothes.

June 1950 - Steve coming in from motorboat ride in Detroit Lakes, Minn

My folks built a house on a lake and bought a speed boat AFTER I left home! Only got to live there one summer during college.

I nearly crashed into this dock. When starting that 5 hsp Johnson engine, it was on full throttle headed for the dock. I spun the moter for a sharp turn just missing!

Uncle Al and I tried to find this bridge on a Masonic fishing trip to Dead Lake.

A woman's work is never done! I remember the mournful cry of the loons at night. Really made one feel lonely.

July 1952 - Our Dock at Minn. camp - Steve & Max (cleaning fish for dinner)

Each cabin had a "live" tank for their fish. We would save up about 100 bullheads to take home in a tank. Upon arriving at home, we would set up an assembly line to clean all 100 bullheads! Also, we would freeze some pan fish to take home.

July 1952 - The turtle Steve caught - Minn.

The last day, just before leaving, a huge snapper turtle was threatening fish on the stringers of fishermen on the bridge. I borrowed a hook from a fisherman and caught the snapper (over a foot in diameter). The fisherman wanted his hook back. We had to cut off its head to get the hook.
